Conventional metering orifice

One of main advantages of the orifice is presence of a great number of theoretical and practical material/experience and clear standards of different factors influence on flow/pressure drop relation.

 

Significant advantage is absence of restrictions on the physical properties of the measured fluid (electric conductivity, density, viscosity etc.). Only the flow hydrodynamic parameters are restricted.

 

One more important orifice advantage is relative simplicity of manufacturing and low cost compared with other types of converters (with comparatively little diameters of pipeline and pressures). By changing β coefficient it is possible to gain the required range of pressure drops in a quite wide range of flow speeds.

 

No spill method of check at absence of the flow metering stands is also an important advantage. Only the geometrical dimensions of the orifice must be checked for flow meters periodic check on the restrictive flow orifice.
